SPIRIT GARDEN
The Spirit Garden Project is a 20,650-square-foot Indigenous cultural space designed to provide opportunities for teaching, learning, sharing, and healing experiences for the Indigenous community of Toronto, the City’s diverse citizens, newcomers, and visitors. This inclusive space responds in part to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Call to Action 82, for government to commission and install a Residential Schools Monument in each capital city to honour residential school survivors, and all the children lost to their families and communities. Centered around the theme of Turtle Island, the Spirit Garden offers spaces for contemplation, celebration, and ceremonies, fostering an environment that is open and welcoming to all. The site is fully accessible and features significant elements such as a reflecting pond, a Two Row Wampum walkway, a Spirit Canoe, an Inukshuk, and a timber-frame Teaching Lodge.
